HAIR+NAILS is pleased to present The Earth is a Body in Transition, an exhibition featuring sculptures, installations, and works on paper by gallery artist ESO MALFLOR.
In their first full-building show at HAIR+NAILS, the artist applies their technique of drawing with fire — its smoke, soot, and resin — to both paintings on paper and the building itself. They reflect on the practice of controlled burns; how a seemingly harmful act can help restore and regenerate an ecological system while preventing much larger catastrophes in the future.
The subjects of their paintings include transexual bodies (individuals, including the artist, who have medically transitioned via hormone replacement therapy and/or gender affirming surgery) in addition to scenes of landscapes and political uprisings.
