UTE BERTOG: COMMON GROUND
The show Common Ground at Rosalux Gallery is an exhibition of new paintings, ceramics and poetry by Ute Bertog, bringing together a diverse group of work to look closer at the interstices between objects, mediums and ideas and explore their convergences.

In her practice the artist is drawn to pliable material for its ability to continuously yield to intuitive changes before time will fix materials into place, be it oil paint or clay. Similarly with collages of found text, where she accentuates the physicality of language and explores its possibilities to shift and turn until committed to the page. This continuous process of change is a way to emphasize the physicality of making, of working with materials of the earth in both clay and painting, which is traditionally made of pigments of the earth suspended in oil. Language is another medium deeply rooted in the physical body especially in its spoken form, establishing connections to others, bridging the spaces and finding common ground between.
